Fingers crossed for an early spring, though.Julie Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09965401314478095790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1347024209749983628.post-77968115727887446402016-01-10T10:43:09.659-05:002016-01-10T10:43:09.659-05:00The woman who posted about the bees said she picke...The woman who posted about the bees said she picked a couple of them up and brought them inside and they revived. She then brought them back out to put them at the entrance.<br /><br />I hold out a little hope for the Hello Kitty hive. There were dead bees out front so someone had to carry them out. I think Sarah's hive is toast though - no signs of any life. But I do notice the sun being a little stronger and higher each day so spring must be coming! If only the below zero temps would go away!Donhttp://www.buddhaandthebees.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1347024209749983628.post-7553723736555094072016-01-09T07:07:25.058-05:002016-01-09T07:07:25.058-05:00What a sad story about the bees who froze taking a...What a sad story about the bees who froze taking a cleansing flight. That must have been horrible for that beek to watch. :-(<br /><br />I'm glad that the hives in your backyard are still alive, and I'm going to cross my fingers for the others. I've heard stories about bees bringing in bees inside that they thought were frozen and dead in order to process the honey. But once the bees warmed up, they started flying. Maybe your other girls are just waiting for warmer weather. Hang in there -- spring's just around the corner now!Julie Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09965401314478095790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1347024209749983628.post-23258001203605171462016-01-08T21:07:22.743-05:002016-01-08T21:07:22.743-05:00We just had a post on our local list about someone...We just had a post on our local list about someone who saw her bees flying in the 20's after the temps were below 0 for an extended time. When they flew they instantly fell into the snow and died from the cold. With the sun, it was warm in the hive, but unfortunately it was just too cold outside. We've had prolonged cold and snow in CO the past few weeks (seems like NE last year!) and my girls in the backyard were flying at about 45. Unfortunately, my other two hives look like they didn't survive this extended cold. I'm not surprised - I probably should have combined them since they were both marginal. Hopefully, BnB2 will make it through and I'll be able to split in the spring. I might order a package or two as backup, though. I'm on board for an early spring also! And as they say, well behaved women rarely make history!Donhttp://www.buddhaandthebees.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1347024209749983628.post-60019564842706698812016-01-08T17:35:23.906-05:002016-01-08T17:35:23.906-05:00Oooh! A few brave gals venture forth around 40 F, though only briefly.
